BLACK METAL:
A mutation from the early 80's speed / thrash metal experiments. With it's hyper speed punk influences and blasphemous themes it has evolved into a genre all it's own. Guitar riffs are played in highly distorted tremolo picking , drums are very aggressive and focus on speedy blast beats while the vocals range from high pitched shrieks to battle cry screams. In some cases soprano style vocals accompanied by keyboards are often employed to create atmosphere . Black metal stresses exceedingly fast tempos and aural ambiance over all else . The early version was very raw and used satanic lyrics and anti-christian imagery over musicianship and in most recordings low fidelity was common. Corpse paint has been used throughout the history of Black Metal along with simplistic black and white album covers and paganistic stage shows.
